In general, holding onto one torch is a good idea for using Shambler altars. (Aside) In the Warrens, it is preferable to hold onto one torch (within reason), since piles of scrolls can spawn in the hallways of the Warrens, which require a torch (the interaction removes a negative quirk). Meaning that torches should be used at the beginning of unscouted hallways after it has been established that a battle is possible (or that no loot can be seen).ĭepending on the placement of loot and battle(s), sometimes it frugal to use a torch to go from (85), say, to (100) light, so that, when torchlight runs out, you encounter a battle around (75) (instead of waiting, then going from to ), and then reaching the loot at (60) or (50) torchlight. Loot can spawn just outside of rooms, and that loot is visible in the hallway without the use of the map (without the use of scouting). So, sometimes after a hallway fight, it is frugal to use torches before moving, then move towards a room battle (6 torch units are used per tile, and 6 units for entering a room - torches give you +25 light), but only if you have radiant light (75) before entering a battle room, such that the benefits of radiant light can still be obtained. Torchlight diminishes when walking using a torch just before entering a room battle to make light radiant (100) will cause torchlight to take longer to become dim or shadowy, which can result in obtaining less loot. Also, you can shift-click the torch icon to reduce torchlight by 25 (credit to MeltedTwix for pointing this out). In general, making torchlight run out for as long as possible, so long battles can be avoided, yields more loot. This can be taken advantage of by letting torchlight run out, if the path between your party and the loot has no battles if torchlight becomes dim (60) or shadowy (50), more loot than normal can be obtained (I'm pretty sure dim light gives extra loot, even though it doesn't display it), along with using the proper provisions. (1) When scouting a dungeon, sometimes a green bag icon - which represents loot - is displayed on the map. Torchlight can be utilized to obtain more loot (1) when you scout a dungeon, or (2) at the end of the dungeon when there are no battles. This will be a very short guide about how to use torchlight to get more loot. ![]()
